The chiefs of David's army
1Here is a list of the names of the leaders of the families of Israel, the chiefs of 1 000 men and the chiefs of 100 men and their officers. They all worked for the king. Every month of the year, a group of soldiers went to the king and another group went back home. There were 24 000 men in each group.
2Jashobeam, son of Zabdiel, was the leader of the first group for the first month. There were 24 000 men in his group. 3He was from the Perez family and he was the leader of all the officers for the first month.
4Dodai from the town of Ahoah was the leader of the group for the 2nd month. Mikloth was the chief officer of his group. There were 24 000 men in the group.
5The leader of the group for the 3rd month was Benaiah, son of Jehoiada the priest. There were 24 000 men in his group. 6Benaiah was one of the 30 special men of the king. He was the leader of the 30 men. His son, Ammizabad, was the chief_officer of his group.
7The leader of the group for the 4th month was Asahel, brother of Joab, and after him his son Zebadiah was the leader. There were 24 000 men in his group. 8The leader of the group for the 5th month was Shamhuth from the Izrah family. There were 24 000 men in his group.

There were 24 000 men in his group. 12The leader of the group for the 9th month was Abiezer from the town of Anathoth. Abiezer was from the Benjamin tribe. There were 24 000 men in his group.
13The leader of the group for the 10th month was Maharai from the town of Netophah. Maharai was from the Zerah family. There were 24 000 men in his group.
14The leader of the group for the 11th month was Benaiah from the town of Pirathon. Benaiah was from the Ephraim tribe. There were 24 000 men in his group.
15The leader of the group for the 12th month was Heldai from the town of Netophah. Heldai was from the Othniel family. There were 24 000 men in his group.

23David did not count the men who were younger than 20 years because God had promised that He would make the Israelites become as many as the stars in the sky. 24Joab, son of Zeruiah, had started counting the people, but he could not finish counting them because the Lord became angry with the Israelites because Joab was counting them. That is why it is not written in King David's books how many men there were that were younger than 20 years.
The leaders of David's guards
25Azmaveth, son of Adiel, was the leader of the guards at the king's store rooms in Jerusalem. Jonathan, son of Uzziah, was the leader of the guards at the store rooms outside Jerusalem in the cities and towns that had high and strong walls.
26Ezri, son of Kelub, was the leader of the people outside Jerusalem who worked on the farms and fields. 27Shimei from the town of Rama was the leader of the people who worked in the vineyards. Zabdi from the town of Shepham was the leader of the people who worked in the store rooms in the vineyards where they stored the wine.
28Baal-Hanan from the town of Geder was the leader of the people who worked with the olive trees and the sycamore trees in the valleys. Joash was the leader of the people who worked in the store rooms where they kept the olive oil.
29Shitrai from the town of Sharon was the leader of the people who looked after the cattle in Sharon. Shaphat, son of Adlai, was the leader of the people who looked after the cattle in the valleys. 30Obil from the Ishmael family was the leader of the people who looked after the camels. Jehdeiah from the town of Meronoth was the leader of the people who looked after the donkeys. 31Jaziz from the Hagar family was the leader of the people who looked after the sheep and goats. These were all the men who were leaders and had to look after everything that belonged to King David.
David's advisors
32Jonathan was David's uncle and an advisor. He was a wise man and he could write. Jehiel, son of Hakmoni, had to take care of the king's children and teach them.
33Ahithophel was the king's advisor and Hushai from the Arkite people was the king's friend. 34After Ahithophel, Jehoiada, son of Benaiah, and Abiathar, became the king's advisors. Joab was the chief of the king's army.
