MATHEU 13:9SSO89SOBula ka mmadi wa Bibele

The story of the sower is also a well-known story, but for me, it has always been one of the parables that is a little more difficult to understand. It is about a farmer who sowed seed in his fields.

Some of the seed fell on the road, but the birds ate it up.

Some of the seed fell on a large pile of stones, there was not much soil. The seeds sprouted quickly, but when it got hot, the plants dried out because their roots were not very deep.

Some of the seed fell among the weeds, but there was not enough room for the seeds to grow.

Yet, there were some seeds that fell in the fields where there was enough good soil – soil that was ready for the seed to grow. Those seeds were able to germinate and the wheat was able to grow.

If God’s word is the seed that is sown, it means we must make sure our hearts are receptive to hearing God’s voice. We need to hear what God tells us in his word.

Is your heart and mind receptive? Do you make sure that you are exposed to God’s message?

If we want to listen to God’s voice, then we are like fertile soil where wheat can grow. This means that we can live a positive life, a life according to God’s will. However, it means we have to expose ourselves to God’s word and voice. We have to make time to read the Bible, listen to it and think about it.

It’s something that we so easily prioritise at the beginning of the year, or when the going gets tough, or when we or a loved one has health problems. Let’s try to make it a priority each week. On the contrary, let’s open our hearts every day, so that we can hear his voice and let it grow in our lives – as lush as a good harvest of wheat.

Prayer: Thank you Lord that we can hear your word. Help me to open my heart and mind to hear your voice, so that I can live according to your will. Amen
