JOSHUA 10
February 29th – leap day – a day on which an average of 4 million babies are born (which means that they only get to actually celebrate their birthdays every four years). Precisely for this reason, some cultures decided not to celebrate February 29th during a leap year, but rather to celebrate February 24th twice!
An extra day is quite beneficial, especially if you have an approaching deadline and you don’t know how you can get everything done. Joshua once felt that way. In Joshua 10, we read that five kings marched against the Israelites and Gibeon. A great battle ensued, but Joshua knew that the day was too short to achieve victory in the attack. In a step of faith, he stood before God and asked him to make the sun and moon stand still.
In Joshua 10:13a we read: “So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies …”
What do you need today that feels almost as “impossible” as the sun and moon standing still – a spouse, pregnancy, a new job, healing? In Matthew 17:20 (ESV), Jesus said to his disciples: “For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
May 2024 be the year where we realise who God is. He can help us defeat our enemies. After all, he made the sun and moon stand still, didn’t he?
Prayer: Father God, thank you very much for being omnipotent and remaining in control of my life. Please help me not to live in fear, but to remind myself of who you are. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
