When we go through difficult times, we often feel lonely, don’t we?

I think there is often a misconception that we must face life’s challenges on our own. The problem with this is that it makes the dark place feel even darker and deeper. It is much more frightening when you must face the unknown, hardships and struggles alone. I think the fear of failure also becomes much greater.

When I go through tough times, I tend to isolate myself. I feel like I have to overcome it on my own. I do not want to burden others with my worries and struggles. I do not want to be a burden to anyone when I am going through hardship. Yes, I might turn to God for help, but not necessarily to the people around me.

We read in the Bible that God is always with us, that he is there for us when we feel scared and alone, when we have to navigate the dark parts of life.

Still, I could not help but think the other day that we should not forget that God uses the people around us as well. He sends people across our paths for a purpose. He places people with wisdom, advice and good plans in our lives to help and support us when things get tough. Sometimes, we just need to accept that help. Sometimes we just need to talk to someone about what is bothering us.

It is okay to tell your loved ones – your friends and family – when life feels overwhelming. They want to help. Most people I know want to make a difference in the lives of others. They want to help, support and comfort. Sometimes, we need to allow that.

We cannot pray and ask God for help, and then ignore the help he sends us. Yes, God’s helping hand can come to us in many forms and through different people.

So, when you feel alone again, look closely. Look around you. God has probably already sent someone to walk the path with you. You just may not have realised it yet, because you expected the answer to look different.

Prayer: Father, give me the courage to rely on the people around me when life becomes heavy. Help me to see your hand and to realise that you will never leave me to go through the dark times alone. Amen
