A few weeks ago, the Greenside community in Johannesburg was up in arms about a hadeda bird that flew around with an arrow through its body. Someone’s failed attempt to shoot the bird left the arrow about 1cm deep in his body. It took a group of volunteers five days to finally catch the hadeda to remove the arrow.

At times we are walking around with “arrows” through our bodies. It comes in the form of people who hurt us with their words or even us taking offense. Other times, our “arrows” are our worriesthat we carry around with us – a fear of Covid-19, a challenge with a child, a marriage that is struggling, financial pressure or the fear of retrenchment. If we do not identify these arrows and ask God to remove them, it will soon begin to steal the peace and joy in our lives.

The volunteers did not give up hope on catching the hadeda; neither does God give up on us. He wants to save and heal us. He wants us to live freely.

In Hebrews 13: 5 God says, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Also in Psalm 147: 3 it is written: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” And in Philippians 4: 6-7 we find the key to getting rid of our worries: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

May we be brave enough to identify the arrows in our lives and take them to God. He wants to demonstrate His power and love to us and heal us completely. God bless.

Prayer: Father God, thank You that I can come to You with every challenge, knowing that You want to heal and help me. I bring (name what it is that robs you of your peace) to You. Please take the “arrows” away from my life and heal my heart. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen
