BAHEBERU 1:3SSO89SOBula ka mmadi wa Bibele

The birth of a new baby usually evokes “oohs” and “ahs” from everyone who pays a visit to see the newborn. Then the opinions follow: “his father’s spitting image!”; “mom’s genes rule!” And everyone has an opinion on the looks, but at this fragile age no one can know whether the baby will take after his mom or his dad. It will only become clearer as the infant grows older.

But with Jesus, it is different: “The Son is the image of the invisible God,” (Colossians 1:15) and “God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things …” (Colossians 1:19-20)

The Spirit-inspired Word emphasises the exalted position of Jesus Christ. God created all things in heaven and on earth through his Son, therefore, He (Jesus) is “the firstborn over all creation” (Colossians 1:15) and “…in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17) Thus, He is the appointed “heir of all things” (Hebrews 1:2). The unity between God and Jesus is very clear. ”The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being.” (Hebrews 1:3) No wonder then that Jesus sustains all things by his powerful word.

But there’s more. After Jesus had provided purification for our sins, he sat down at the right- hand side of the Father in heaven. His Father declares that Jesus is his Son and that He is his Father. He repeats the declaration but shifts the focus: “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son.” (Hebrews 1:5)

Godly words that parents should take to heart. Dads like to hold their babies and whisper to them: “You are my son/daughter, and I am your Daddy.” But how many dads are willing to honour their commitment to this promise of Hebrews 1:5.

What does the Word want to bring to our attention regarding these truths of this topic? God and Jesus Christ are one being, the Godhead. Inseparable, yet distinctive. Said differently, Father and Son are: One plus One is One – the Godhead! Jesus is not merely the identical representative of God, but He is God himself!

The good news is that God chooses to reveal himself through his Son, Jesus Christ. To you, me and everyone that longs to know him. He is, after all, the final revelation of God to man! The only One able to let the plus One remain One!

Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, thank you for the indisputable unity between yourself and your Son, Jesus Christ – for ever. We truly worship the Godhead, who always is, always was and always will be from the beginning to end. Amen
