On Monday, motorsport enthusiasts were shocked when driver, Ryan Newman’s car crashed during NASCAR’s Daytona 500 eventin America. Newman was leading the final lap when his car became airborne, flipping several times before rolling in flames down the track. The fact that he survived is an absolute miracle. He is currently in a serious, but stable condition in the hospital.

As I looked at the video clip (see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu_C4UhfAy4), I could not help notice the similarity of how it feels at times in our lives when we receive news that turns our lives upside down. For instance, everything is fine until the doctor gives us that shocking news about our health or we discover that our spouse was having an affair, or that a child is struggling with an addiction or perhaps we get news that we are retrenched at work. Shocking news makes us feel like Newman must have felt on the track – totally out of control.

In the midst of storms, it is important to remember that God remains our LIGHTHOUSE. In Psalm 91: 1-2 we read: “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” We also read in verse 14: “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.”

Do you find yourself in the midst of a storm? I encourage you to make God your safe fortress. He knows and determines the future and He can keep us safe. He is still the Most High God, our LIGHTHOUSE. God bless.

Father God, thank you that I can come to Youfor shelter. Fill me with peace. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen
