*Psalms 82

₁God went to sit on his throne

where all the gods were together.

He, the Judge,

told the gods what He had decided.

₂He asked them:

‘How long are you going to be unfair?

Why do you say that bad people

are good and innocent?’ Selah

₃He said: ‘You must defend orphans

and people who are weak,

and help the people who are suffering

and have no money.

₄Help the people who are weak

and have nothing,

and save them from sinful and cruel people.

₅But you don't know anything,

and you don't understand.

You do only things that are bad,

things that people do in the darkness.

That is why everyone becomes worse

and the world comes to its end.

₆I said: “You are gods,

messengers of the Most High God.”

₇But now I say:

“You will die like people,

and you will stop living like rulers on earth.” ’

₈O God, please judge everyone in the world

because all the nations belong to You.
