Lord, You keep me upright
This is a Psalm of David when he was in the Judah Desert.
1O God, You are my God,
and I want to be near You.
I long for You like someone
who longs for water in a dry land
where there is no water
and everything suffers.
2I have seen You in your temple
and I have seen your power and your glory.
3Your love that will never change
is better than life itself.
That is why I will praise You.
4I will thank You and
praise You for as long as I live.
I will put my hands up to You
and pray to You.
5It will be wonderful for me to do it,
better than eating the best food.
I will sing and praise You
with my mouth and my hands.
6When I lie down on my bed
and remember You,
when I think of You all night long,
7I remember how You
have always helped
and protected me like a hen
protects her chicks,
and I sing again.
8I want to stay near You.
You keep me upright
with your strong hand.
9But those people
who want to kill me
will die and go down
to the deep places of the earth.
10They will be killed in war
and wild foxes will eat them.
11Then the king will rejoice
because he belongs to God.
Everyone who knows God
and asks Him to be his Witness
when he makes a promise
will praise God,
because people who tell lies
will not be able to say anything.
