Lord, I am waiting for You
This is a Psalm of David, for him to remember how God has helped him.
1Lord, please don't punish me
when You are angry.
Don't rebuke me or make me suffer
when You are angry with me.
2Your arrows have wounded me.
You have beaten me with your hand.
3My whole body hurts
because You are angry with me,
and my body is sick and wounded
because I have sinned.
4The things that I have done wrong
and my guilt are too much for me.
They are like something that is too heavy
that I have to carry.
5I was a fool and that is why
my body is full of sores that stink.
6I am bowed down,
I can not stand upright,
and I cry and mourn all day long,
7because it feels as if
there is a fire burning in me,
and my whole body hurts.
8I am weak and broken,
and I feel like I am going to die.
I am moaning because
my heart is full of trouble.
9My Lord, You know what I want.
You listen to me when I moan and groan.
10My heart is beating fast,
my strength is gone and
I can not see anything.
11My friends don't want to be
with me because I am sick,
and my family stay away from me.
12The people who want me to die
have set traps for me,
and they wait for me to say something wrong
so that they can accuse me.
They make plans to kill me,
and they think of false things
to say against me.
13But I pretend to be
like someone who is deaf
and can not hear them,
like someone who is mute
who says nothing to them.
14I am like someone
who can not hear or answer them
15because I am waiting for You,
Lord my God, and I will answer You.
16I say to You:
‘Please don't let them rejoice over me,
and don't let them laugh at me
when I slip and fall.’
17Because I am stumbling now,
I am full of pain and going to fall.
18I confess my sins. I feel bad
because of the things that I have done wrong.
19My enemies are strong and healthy.
I have done nothing wrong to them,
but there are a lot of people who hate me.
20I have done good things to them,
but they want to pay me back
with things that make me suffer.
They tell lies and accuse me
because I try to do good.
21Lord my God,
please don't leave me,
and don't be far away from me.
22My Lord,
please come quickly and help me.
You are the only God who can save me.
