What God wants is better than anything else
Tell the leader of the choir that this is a Psalm of David.
1The heaven tells about
the glory of God the King,
and the sky above tells about
all the things that He has done.
2One day tells it to the next day,
and one night tells the next night what happened.
3They do not talk or use words,
and no one hears when heaven speaks.
4But their message goes to everyone,
and everyone in the world understands
what heaven says.
God has given the sun a home in the sky
5and when the sun comes up
and starts to go on its way
like a happy soldier,
he is like a bridegroom
who is pleased when he comes
out of his bedroom.
6The sun comes up in the far east
and goes down in the far west.
No one can hide from it,
and it makes everyone warm.
7The laws of the Lord are perfect,
and they give new life to everyone who respects them.
The things that the Lord
wants people to do
are better than anything else.
They give wisdom to young people.
8The commandments of the Lord are right,
and they make people happy.
The rules of the Lord are pure,
and they help people understand
what God wants them to do.
9It is good and right to worship the Lord,
and people will worship Him forever.
What God decides
is always true and fair.
10The things that the Lord says
are better than gold,
better than the best and finest gold.
They are sweeter than fresh honey
that drips from a honeycomb.
11The words of the Lord teach me
what to do and warn me what not to do,
and the Lord rewards everyone who listens
to his words and does what He says.
12No one can see his own mistakes
and know what he is doing is wrong.
Lord, please forgive me when I do
something wrong,
when I don't know that it is a sin.
13And please help me
not to sin when I know
that something is wrong, but I still want to do it.
Please don't let sin rule over me.
Then I will be pure and innocent,
and then I will not be guilty
or rebel_against You.
14Lord, You are my Rock,
the One who saves me.
I pray that You will be pleased
with the things that I say and think.
