Ezekiel 41
The inside of the temple
1The man took me to the front room of the temple. He measured the walls on both sides of the door. Each wall was 6 cubits thick. 2The door was 10 cubits wide and the walls on both sides of the door were 5 cubits wide. The man measured the front room. It was 40 cubits long and 20 cubits wide. 3Then the man went to the back room and he measured the walls on both sides of the door. The walls were 2 cubits thick and the door was 6 cubits wide and the walls on both sides of the door were 7 cubits long. 4The man measured the room. It was 20 cubits long, and 20 cubits wide, the same as the front room. The man said to me: ‘This is the most_holy room.’
5Then the man measured the wall of the temple. It was 6 cubits thick. The building on the outside of the wall of the temple was 4 cubits wide. 6The building had 3 floors and there were 30 rooms on the ground floor, 30 rooms on top of them and 30 rooms on top of them. There were places where the walls were stronger all around the wall of the temple, and the other building rested on these stronger places in the walls so that they did not have to tie it to the walls of the temple. The walls of the temple were wider on the ground floor and thinner on the 2nd floor and thinner on the 3rd floor, at the top. 7The walls of the side rooms covered the walls of the temple. The rooms on the 2nd floor were bigger than the rooms on the ground floor and the rooms on the 3rd floor were bigger than the rooms on the 2nd floor. There were stairs going up from the ground floor to the 2nd floor and to the top floor.
8I saw that the temple was higher than the other building. The foundations of the building against the walls of the temple were one measuring-stick high. It was 6 temple-cubits. 9The outer wall of the building against the walls of the temple was 5 cubits thick. There was an open space between the building against the temple wall 10and the rooms at the courtyard. The open space was 20 cubits wide and it was next to the side of the temple. 11There were doors from the side rooms to the open space, one to the north and one to the south. The wall of the open space was 5 cubits all around.
The building on the western side
12There was also a building on the western side of the open space. The building was 70 cubits wide and 90 cubits long. The wall of the building was 5 cubits thick. 13The man then measured the temple. It was 100 cubits long and the open space with the building and its walls was also 100 cubits long. 14The open space east of the temple was 100 cubits wide. 15The man measured how wide the building was next to the open space and behind the temple. He measured it together with the pavements on both sides of the building. It was 100 cubits.
The front and back rooms of the temple were covered with planks, and also the porches from which someone could go to the courtyard. 16The doorsteps, the windows with shutters, the bottom parts of the window frames at the 3 sides, and the front of the doorsteps were all covered with planks, from the floor to the windows. The window frames were also made of wood. 17Above the door and against every wall of the temple, inside and outside, and also on the walls all around, inside and outside, there were 18carved pictures of cherub-angels and palm trees. There was a palm tree between every 2 cherub-angels and every cherub had 2 faces. 19One face was that of a human and the other face was the face of a lion. The faces looked at the palm trees. There were carved cherub-angels on all the walls of the temple. 20There were carved cherub-angels and palm trees from the floor to the top of the door and also against the wall of the front room.
21The frame of the front door of the room was square. The door of the holy room looked the same. 22The altar in the front room was made of wood. It was 3 cubits high and 2 cubits long. Its corners and sides were also made of wood.
The man said to me: ‘This is the table that always has to be in the front room in front of the Lord.’
23There were doors to the front room and the holy room. 24There were 2 doors in one door frame that could swing open. 25There were pictures of cherub-angels and palm trees carved out onto the 2 doors, the same as on the walls. In front of the porch, along the outside, there was a roof of wood. 26There were windows with shutters and palm trees carved out on both sides against the walls of the porch and on the rooms of the building at the temple and on the roofs.
