Daniel 12
God will save his people
1The man said: ‘At that time Michael will come. He is the great angel who must protect your people. The people will suffer a lot during that time. No people have ever suffered as much as that before. But then God will come to save your people, the people whose names are written in his book. 2All the people who are now dead in their graves will wake up. Some will have eternal_life, but God will humiliate the others and they will be ashamed and hated forever. 3Everyone who was wise, and who did what was right to other people, will shine like stars in the sky forever.
4And Daniel, you must keep quiet. You must close this book until the end of time, the last day. Many people will look everywhere and try to understand what happens.’
The end of time
5Then I, Daniel, looked again and I saw 2 other men. One was standing on one side of the river and the other man was on the other side of the river. 6The man with the linen clothes was standing above the river and one of the men at the side of the river asked him: ‘How long will it be before these things will happen?’
7The man with the linen clothes, who was above the water, held up his hands towards heaven and asked God who lives forever to be his Witness. The man said: ‘It will be 3 and a half years. These things will stop when the holy people have suffered enough.’
8I heard what he said but I did not understand it, so I asked him: ‘Sir, how will these things end?’
9He said: ‘Daniel, you must go now, because the people will know what these things mean only at the end of time. 10Many will become clean and pure and good, but the bad people will stay bad. Not one of the bad people will understand, but the wise people will understand this. 11The king will tell the priests not to bring offerings every day. He will also put something in the temple that will make God very angry, and it will destroy everything. Then 1 290 days will pass. 12God will bless everyone who is patient and who waits for 1 335 days.
13Daniel, you must be faithful and continue until it is time for you to die. You will rest and at the end of time you will rise from death and receive the reward that God wants to give to you.’
