Solomon brings the covenant box to the temple
(Also in 1 Kings 8:1-11)
2Then Solomon called all the leaders_of_Israel to come to him in Jerusalem. He called the leaders of the tribes and families of the Israelites. He wanted to bring the covenant box of the Lord from Zion, the City of David, to the temple. 3All the Israelites came together with the king for the feast in the 7th month. 4All the leaders_of_Israel came and the Levites carried the covenant box. 5The priests and Levites brought the covenant box and the tent of the Lord as well. They brought all the tools from the tent. 6King Solomon and all the Israelites who were together with him were standing in front of the covenant box and they sacrificed so many sheep and goats that no one could count them.
7The priests brought the covenant box of the Lord and they put it in its place in the most_holy room of the temple. They put the covenant box under the wings of the cherub-angels. 8The cherub-angels' wings were open above the covenant box and they covered the covenant box and its carrying poles. 9The people standing in the inner room could see the ends of the carrying poles of the covenant box, but people standing outside could not see the ends. The carrying poles are still there. 10Inside the covenant box were only the 2 flat stones that Moses had put in it at Mount Horeb. There was nothing else in the covenant box. He had put them in there when the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt.
11All the priests who were there that day had to consecrate themselves to the Lord, as well as the priests who were not working on that day. When the priests came out of the temple, 12the Levite singers were ready to sing. They were Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun, their sons and brothers. They had white linen clothes and they played cymbals, harps and lyres. They stood east of the altar. There were 120 priests blowing trumpets. 13The priests blew the trumpets and the singers started to praise the Lord and thank Him. The priests also played the cymbals and other musical_instruments. They praised the Lord and they sang these words:
‘God is good. He will always love us.
His love never ever stops.’
Then there was a cloud that covered the temple. 14The priests could not do their work because of the cloud. The glory that was shining around the King, the Lord, filled the temple.
