The Levi tribe
1The names of Levi's sons were Gershon, Kohath and Merari. 2The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. 3The children of Amram were Aaron, Moses and Miriam. The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
4Eleazar was the father of Phinehas, Phinehas was the father of Abishua, 5Abishua was the father of Bukki, Bukki was the father of Uzzi, 6Uzzi was the father of Zerahiah, Zerahiah was the father of Meraioth, 7Meraioth was the father of Amariah, Amariah was the father of Ahitub, 8Ahitub was the father of Zadok, Zadok was the father of Ahimaaz, 9Ahimaaz was the father of Azariah, Azariah was the father of Johanan and 10Johanan was the father of Azariah. It was Azariah who was the priest in the temple which Solomon built in Jerusalem. 11Azariah was the father of Amariah, Amariah was the father of Ahitub, 12Ahitub was the father of Zadok, Zadok was the father of Shallum, 13Shallum was the father of Hilkiah, Hilkiah was the father of Azariah, 14Azariah was the father of Seraiah and Seraiah was the father of Jozadak.
15Jozadak went with the people of Judah when the Lord sent King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to catch the people of Jerusalem and take them away to Babylon.
The families of the descendants of Levi
16The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath and Merari. 17The names of the sons of Gershon were Libni and Shimei. 18The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. 19The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi.
Here are the names of the families of the descendants of Levi: 20The sons of Gershon were the families of his son Libni, his son Jahath, his son Zimmah, 21his son Joah, his son Iddo, his son Zerah and his son Jeatherai. 22The descendants of Kohath were the families of his son Amminadab, his son Korah, his son Assir, his son Elkanah, 23his son Ebiasaph, his son Assir, 24his son Tahath, his son Uriel, his son Uzziah and his son Shaul.
25The descendants of Elkanah were the families of Amasai, Ahimoth, 26his son Elkanah, his son Zophai, his son Nahath, 27his son Eliab, his son Jeroham and his son Elkanah. 28The sons of Samuel were Joel, the oldest son, and Abijah, his 2nd son. 29The descendants of Merari were the families of Mahli, his son Libni, his son Shimei, his son Uzzah, 30his son Shimea, his son Haggiah and his son Asaiah.
The people who had to sing at the temple
31After David moved the covenant box of the Lord to its place, he chose people to sing in the temple. 32Their work was to sing at the tent of the Lord, where the Lord appeared to the Israelites. They did this until Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem. Each group had their time when they had to sing in the temple.
33-38Here are the names of the men who sang with their children:
From the descendants of Kohath, Heman, son of Joel, the son of Samuel, had to sing in the temple. His forefathers were Levi, son of Israel, Kohath, Izhar, Korah, Ebiasaph, Assir, Tahath, Zephaniah, Azariah, Joel, Elkanah, Amasai, Mahath, Elkanah, Zuph, Toah, Eliel, Jeroham, Elkanah and Samuel.
39-43Asaph, son of Berekiah, sang with Heman who helped him. His forefathers were Levi, Gershon, Jahath, Shimei, Zimmah, Ethan Adaiah, Zerah, Ethni, Malkijah, Baaseiah, Michael and Shimea.
44-47Other people who had to help them were the sons of Merari. There was Ethan, son of Kishi and his forefathers were Levi, Merari, Mushi, Mahli, Shemer, Bani, Amzi, Hilkiah, Amaziah, Hashabiah, Malluk and Abdi.
The descendants of Aaron
48The other Levites had to work at the tent of the Lord, the house of God. 49Aaron and his sons were priests who sacrificed_offerings on the altar. They burnt offerings on the altar and on the incense-altar. They made atonement for the sins of the Israelites. Moses, the servant of God, told them everything they had to do.
50Here are the names of the priests who were descendants of Aaron:

The towns of the Levites
54Here are the names of the towns where the Levites could live. The Lord gave them their own places to live. The families of the descendants of Kohath, son of Aaron, were the first to get towns to live in.
55The Judah tribe gave them the town of Hebron and the fields around the town. 56But the tribe gave Caleb, son of Jephunneh, the fields outside the town where he could plough and plant. 57The Judah tribe gave the town_of_safety, Hebron, to the descendants of Aaron, as well as the towns of Libnah, Jattir, Eshtemoa, 58Hilen, Debir, 59Ashan and Beth-Shemesh. They also gave them the fields around the towns.
60The Benjamin tribe gave the Levites the towns of Gibeon, Geba, Alemeth and Anathoth. These Levite families got 13 towns. 61The other families of the descendants of Kohath got 10 towns where the half tribe of Manasseh lived. 62The families of the descendants of Gershon got 13 towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher and Naphtali and from the Manasseh tribe who lived in Bashan.
63The families of the descendants of Merari got 12 towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
64The Israelites gave the Levites these towns with the fields around them. 65The tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin gave them these towns. 66The Ephraim tribe gave towns to the Kohath families. 67The tribe gave them the town_of_safety of Shechem in the mountains of Ephraim, and the towns of Gezer, 68Jokmeam, Beth-Horon, 69Aijalon and Gath-Rimmon and the fields around the towns. 70One half of the Manasseh tribe lived west of the Jordan River. They gave the towns of Aner and Bileam to the other families of the descendants of Kohath, as well as the fields around the towns. 71The other half of the Manasseh tribe lived east of the Jordan River. They gave the town of Golan in Bashan and the town of Ashtaroth to the families of the descendants of Gershon, with the fields around the towns.
72The Issachar tribe gave the families of Gershon the towns of Kedesh, Daberath, 73Ramoth and Anem, with the fields around the towns. 74The Asher tribe gave them the towns of Mashal, Abdon, 75Hukok and Rehob, with the fields around the towns. 76The Naphtali tribe gave them the towns of Kedesh in Galilee, Gammon and Kiriathaim, with the fields around the towns.
77The other Merari families got the towns of Rimmono and Tabor from the Zebulun tribe, with the fields around the towns.
78On the other side of the Jordan River, east of the river near Jericho, the Reuben tribe gave them the town of Bezer in the desert and the towns of Jahzah, 79Kedemoth and Mephaath, with the fields around the towns. 80The Gad tribe gave them the towns of Ramoth in Gilead, Mahanaim, 81Heshbon and Jazer, with the fields around the towns.
