My people did not listen to Me
Tell the leader of the choir to play the same music as the song about the wine-press. This is a Psalm of Asaph.
1You must sing. You must rejoice
and shout to God who protects us,
the God_of_Jacob.
2You must make music
and play tambourines.
Play beautiful music
with lyres and harps.
3Blow the trumpet on
the new moon day
and when it is full moon,
the day when we celebrate.
4Because that is what the laws
of the Israelites say.
The God_of_Jacob
decided this long ago.
5He told this to the descendants
of Joseph when they came out of Egypt.
Someone talked to me
but I did not know who it was.
6The person said:
‘You had to carry heavy loads,
but I took them from your shoulders,
and you could put down the baskets
that you had to carry.
7You suffered a lot,
but when you prayed to Me,
I saved you.
There was a dark cloud
that covered Me,
and I did what you asked.
Then I tested you at the water of Meribah. Selah
8My people, listen to Me when I warn you.
I wish that the Israelites
would do what I say.
9You may not have other gods with you,
and you may not bow down
to the gods of other nations.
10I am the Lord your God
who brought you out of Egypt.
I will give you everything that you need.
11But my people did not listen to Me.
The people of Israel did not want Me.
12They were stubborn and I left them
and then they did what they wanted to do.
13If my people, the Israelites,
had listened to Me,
if they had lived as I wanted them to,
14then I would have defeated
their enemies quickly and punished them.
15The people who hate Me
would have come crawling
on the ground in front of Me,
and I would have punished them forever.
16I would have let you
eat the best wheat,
and I would have given you
honey from the rocks,
more than enough.’
