Lord, please give me a new heart
Tell the leader of the choir that this is a Psalm of David that he wrote after he had had sex with Bathsheba and the prophet Nathan came to him.
1O God, please have mercy on me.
You are faithful and always love us.
You are always merciful to your people.
Please forget that I did not obey You
and rebelled_against You.
2Wash away all my sins and guilt
and make me pure again.
3I know about all
the wrong things that I did,
and I can not forget my sins.
4I have sinned_against You,
only against You,
and I did what You hate.
You were right and fair
when You said that I am guilty.
You did not make a mistake
when You judged me.
5When I came into this world,
I was full of sin.
I was a sinner before I was born.
6You want me to be good and
honest deep in my heart and mind.
Please teach me your wisdom
that only You know about.
7Wash away all my sins
like the priest who purifies things
with a hyssop-branch.
Purify me and clean me
so that I will be whiter than snow.
8You made me suffer a lot,
and my bones were broken,
but please make me happy again
and let me sing.
9Please don't look at my sins,
and don't remember all the things
that I have done wrong.
Wipe them out.
10O God, please give me a new
and pure heart,
and make my spirit faithful to You
so that I will always belong to You.
11Don't send me away from You
or take your Holy_Spirit away from me.
12Make me as happy as You did
when You saved me.
Make my love for You strong
so that I want to obey You.
13Then I will teach people who
are rebellious to serve You,
and sinners will turn to You.
14O God, save me from the guilt
of murdering someone.
You are my Saviour.
I will sing and tell everyone
that You are good and righteous.
15My Lord, help me to speak
and I will praise You,
16because sacrificing_offerings
is not that important to You.
If You want that, I will give it to You,
or burnt-offerings.
17The offering that You want, O God,
is that we must feel sorry about our sin,
and that we must confess it to You
and be humble.
That pleases You.
18Please be good to Zion again.
Build its walls and
make the city strong again.
19Then You will be pleased
when people sacrifice
the right offerings again,
burnt-offerings and fire-offerings
and bulls that are sacrificed
on your altar.
Then they will sacrifice bulls
on your altar again.
