The city of God
This is a song, a Psalm of the Korah group.
1The Lord is great and wonderful.
Everyone must praise Him
in the city of our God,
on his holy_mountain.
2Mount_Zion is beautiful and high.
Everyone on earth
is pleased with the mountain.
Mount Zion is where the city of God is,
the city of the Great_King.
3God has shown that
He protects his people
within the strong walls of the city.
4Kings came together
and they wanted to attack the city,
5but when they saw God
protecting the city,
they became afraid and ran away.
6They were afraid and started
to tremble like a woman
who is having a baby.
7They feared like seamen do
when the eastern wind breaks
their boat in the sea.
8They told us what God has done,
and now we have seen it.
God will always keep his city safe.
The Lord Almighty will
keep his city standing forever. Selah
9O God, we have come
into your temple and we realise
that You are a faithful God.
10Everyone on earth knows
your name and every one of them
must praise You.
O God, You are very good
and You always do what is right.
11The people in Zion must rejoice.
The people in the cities of Judah
must sing because You are fair.
12Walk around Jerusalem,
walk around the city,
and count the towers in the walls.
13Look how strong the walls
around the city are.
Look at the walls inside the city
and tell this to your children.
14Tell them: ‘The God
who protects this city
is our God, now and forever.
He will always lead us on his way.’
