Proverbs of Solomon
1A father and mother are happy
if their children have wisdom,
but they are sad if their children are foolish.
2If you do something wrong to get money,
it will not help you,
and it will not make you happy.
But if you live in the right way,
it will save you from death.
3If you live in the right way,
the Lord will help you
so that you will not go hungry,
but people who do wrong
will not get what they want.
The Lord will not give it to them.
4People who are lazy will become poor,
but people who work hard will become rich.
5A child who harvests wheat
in the summer is wise,
but a child who sleeps
when he must harvest wheat
will have nothing.
6People bless a person who lives in the right way,
but the words of someone who is foolish
show that he wants to hurt people.
7People remember a person who lived in the right way,
but no one wants to think
of someone who has done wrong.
8A wise person does
what other people tell him to do,
but a fool keeps on talking until he dies.
9A person who is honest lives safely,
but a person who deceives other people
will be caught.
10A person who always
wants to cheat other people
makes trouble for them.
A fool talks and talks until he dies.
11The words of a righteous man
give life to other people,
but the words of a fool can hurt them.
12If a person hates someone else,
he makes people fight each other,
but if he loves someone else,
he makes them forgive each other
and cover the wrong that people have done.
13When a wise man starts talking,
wisdom comes out of his mouth,
but a fool will be punished.
14Wise people know a lot
but they don't show it to everyone.
Fools talk too much,
and when they start talking,
they ruin everything.
15The money of rich people
makes them strong and protects them,
but poor people will suffer
because they have nothing.
16If you live in the right way,
your reward will be a good life,
but if you are sinful
you will get punishment
and your life will become even more sinful.
17Someone who remembers
what he has learned
is walking the path of life,
but someone who does not do what he should
does not know where he is going.
18Someone who hates other people
but hides it when he talks, is false,
and someone who gossips
about other people is a fool.
19When someone talks too much,
he will say things that are wrong.
Wise people keep quiet
and think before they talk.
20The words of a man who lives in the right way
are like the best silver,
but the things that sinful people think are worthless.
21When a man who lives in the right way talks,
his words help a lot of people.
Fools die because they don't have wisdom.
22It is the blessing of the Lord
that makes people rich, not hard work.
Hard work can not make you richer.
23A fool loves doing things that are wrong,
but a wise person loves to understand
things that are really important.
24People who do wrong
will get the things that they are afraid of,
but the Lord gives
the people who live in the right way
what they ask for.
25When a storm wind starts to blow,
it blows away the people who do wrong,
but people who live in the right way
will always be safe.
26Don't send a lazy person
to do something.
He is like vinegar on your teeth
and like smoke in your eyes.
27If you respect and serve the Lord,
you will have a happy and long life,
but the life of people who do wrong
will be cut short.
28People who live in the right way
hope for things that make them happy,
but people who do wrong
hope for things that will never happen.
29People who live as God wants
are safe in his hands,
but people who do bad things will be destroyed.
30No one will chase away
the righteous people,
but people who do wrong
will not stay in the land.
31People who are righteous
say things that are wise,
but people stop listening to sinners.
32People who live in the right way
know what the right things are to say,
but sinful people always tell lies.
