Leviticus 12

₁The Lord said to Moses: ₂‘You must tell the Israelites that when a woman is pregnant and she has a son, she will be impure for 7 days. It will be the same as when she menstruates. ₃On the 8th day her son must be circumcised. ₄When she has stopped bleeding, she must wait for 33 days, then she will be pure again and before that, she may not touch anything that is holy and she may not go into a holy place. ₅If she has a daughter, she will be impure for 2 weeks for bleeding, like when she menstruates and when she has stopped bleeding, she must wait for another 66 days before she will be pure again.

₆When the time has passed and she is pure again, she must bring a lamb which is one-year-old for a burnt-offering and a dove for a sin-offering. She must bring it to the priest at the entrance of the tent of the Lord. ₇The priest must then sacrifice the lamb and the dove to God. This is how he must make atonement for the woman. Then she will be pure from her bleeding. This is what must happen to a woman who has a baby. ₈If she can not give a lamb, then she must give 2 doves. One dove is for a burnt-offering and the other dove is for a sin-offering. This is how the priest must make atonement for her and tell her that she is pure.’
