Emperor Claudius (AD 41-54)

Claudius is the fourth emperor of the Roman Empire. He reigned from AD 41 to 54.

Famine

According to Acts 11:28 there was a great famine during the reign of Emperor Claudius. This probably refers to the famine in the year AD 45 or 46 which is mentioned by the historian Flavius Josephus in his book Antiquities of the Jews.

Aquila and Priscilla

In AD 49, Claudius forced all Jews to leave the city of Rome, as they frequently caused riots. This is how Aquila and Priscilla came to Corinth from Rome, where they came in contact with Paul (Acts 18:2).
