1 Timothy: Structure
The first letter to Timothy contains references to pastoral care within the Christian community.
Summary of Contents
1 Timothy provides guidelines for the behaviour of those in leadership positions in the Christian communities. In the first chapter, the task given to Timothy is reformulated: he is to keep to the teachings he has received and to keep away from people who want to lead him astray.
Chapters 2 and 3 give instructions for members of the church and officials in the church.
From 1 Timothy 4:6
In chapter 5 he is told what his duties are in relation to widows, officials and slaves in the Christian community. In the last chapter it is again stressed what the difference is between the true faith that Timothy is preaching and false teaching.
