God as your living space - 20 March 2020

By Hennie Symington

He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge. Psalm 91:4

Look around you. You reside in a space which you did not create. You are in a space which God created. That is why one of the most ancient blessings goes: God before me, God above me, God behind me, God around me.

God’s space is never ending. He wraps you in his space. Yet, in this space you are free to explore the furthest reaches of your soul, and if you wish, the universe. Of course, mankind couldn’t resist this urge to explore the outer reaches of the universe. And as more and more galaxies appear, the matter of God and his existence become more and more complex.

There are those among us who reckon they have plumbed the height and the depth and the width of the universe, but for ordinary human beings such as us, creation remains an endless mystery which creates more questions than answers in our mind.

However, the miracle of the universe is that God reached out to us across an immeasurable distance to reach into our lives. In fact, He is so concerned with the status of humankind, that He sent his Son to save us. Therefore, let us live in such a way that someone from a distant universe or solar system, might say: “They look pretty primitive but they have one thing that we don’t have, i.e. a God that cares for them.” Silly thought, yet somehow that makes us special in a universe of which we know little.

Prayer: God, we are but little dots in the universe. Yet, you loved us so much that you sent your beloved Son to save us. Amen
