Attitude of Prayer

In the Old Testament we do not find a fixed attitude of prayer, nor in the New Testament. People pray, for instance:

  • in a standing position with hands raised (1 Kings 8:22);
  • bowed down to the ground (Ezra 10:1);
  • with one’s hands folded across one’s chest (Luke 18:13);
  • kneeling, with or without raising one’s hands to the heavens (Luke 22:41).
