Siege of a City

In a siege, the whole city was surrounded by the enemy. No one could enter or leave, and no food or water could be taken into the city either. The attackers’ aim was to force the people of the city to surrender.
It was therefore important to have a source of water in the city. Sometimes a tunnel was dug to a spring outside the city.
