Pesalome 90:12NSO00Bula go Mmadi wa Bibele

Psalm 90 is a powerful prayer of Moses, reflecting on the human nature of our lives and the eternal nature of God. ‘Tempus fugit’, as my dad likes to say. Which, of course, is Latin for ‘times flies’. Life is short, and time moves quickly. Moses knows all too well the fleeting nature of human life, describing how we are like grass that flourishes in the morning but withers by evening (Psalm 90:5-6).

He goes on to reflect on the reality of sin and its consequences, recognising that life is often filled with trouble and sorrow. And it is in this context that he asks God to “teach us to number our days,” reminding us to recognise the brevity of life and the importance of living wisely. This isn’t just about counting days but making our days count by living with purpose and intention.

Think about how you spend your days. Are there areas where you could be more intentional? Reflect on the fact that our days are limited and precious. Consider how you can make the most of your time by investing in relationships, serving others, and deepening your relationship with God.

Living wisely means prioritising what truly matters. This might involve spending more quality time with loved ones, helping someone in need, or dedicating more time to prayer and Bible study. Let the awareness of life’s fleeting nature motivate you to live purposefully and with intention.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to number my days so I can live wisely. Help me to focus on what truly matters and to use my time in ways that honour you. Give me the wisdom to make good decisions and the courage to follow through. Thank you for each day you’ve given me. In Jesus’ name, Amen
