LUKASE 1

37Gobane ga go se se ka palelago Modimo.”

LUKASE 1:37NSO00Bula go Mmadi wa Bibele

When last did you experience a miracle? If you believe in miracles, just open your eyes and you will see a lot of miracles around you.

I think that sometimes the problem is that when we think of miracles, we only think of big miracles, for example, the miracles that we read about in Luke 1 – Mary and Elizabeth’s unlikely pregnancies. Yes, those are indeed miracles.

Then, we often also think of miracles where people survive major accidents or tragedies. We think of people who beat serious diseases or, as in the Bible, unlikely pregnancies.

I do believe that we should not overlook the small miracles. Sometimes, in the midst of sadness and tragedy, there are small miracles that should also be recognised, because they testify to God’s incredible grace and his omnipresence.

Sometimes, the miracles are things we experience as “ordinary”. These miracles are things such as two people meeting and finding love or two parents who, despite incredible challenges, stick with each other and face the difficult road together. Sometimes, the miracle is the right house at the right time and area, or the right job opportunity just before you give up. At other times, the miracle may have been a good idea that transformed into something greater, through hard work and dedication. Sometimes, the miracle is as simple as finding peace in your family.

I do not think that miracles are just things that happen suddenly or out of the blue. Sometimes, the miracle lies in the courage of taking a chance, the patience to wait for the right thing, the perseverance that gets you to the other side, and the hard work and dedication that can make something grow. These are things that we can so easily take for granted and consider “normal”. These miracles should not to be overlooked. On the contrary, we should celebrate them and share them with the people around us.

Think about it. What miracles have you overlooked in your life?

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your love and grace in my life. Help me see and celebrate the miracles that are so easily overlooked. Amen
