We are not all in senior political positions where laws are decided. We are not all executives in powerful companies making important decisions that impact thousands of lives. No, most of us are just ordinary people without any public platform or significant influence – or so we think. We are all wrong!
Every day, our paths cross with many different people. It might be the same people every day. It might be strangers we encounter daily. It could even be people we will never see again. Each of us plays a role in the lives of those we love.
God loves people, which is why he sent Jesus to save us.
We can all do something, acting in ways that reflect God’s love for people and make the world a better place, even if it is just for a handful of people.
Practical help, like volunteering or donating to worthy organisations, can make a difference. In your workplace, you can mentor someone who could benefit from your knowledge and experience. By simply listening and showing empathy to someone going through a tough time, you can make a difference in their life. We can support local and small businesses. We can make someone who feels excluded or lonely at work feel included.
There are many things we, as Christians, can do every day to make the world a little better. Often, it’s the small gestures – things you may not even think will make such a big difference – that can brighten someone’s day or make their life a bit better.
The thing is, we do not always know what struggles the people around us are facing, and we may never know the full extent of the difference our actions can make. But the most important thing is to never stop trying.
Prayer: Lord, help me use my talents and time to make our broken world a better place. Help me also to remember that no gesture is too small. Amen
