An Abba ship or mother ship serves as a base for fighter jets and submarines to be launched from the sea. It serves as a safe haven for the crew to return to in difficult situations. Knowing that there is a firm base to return to will definitely ease the crew’s nerves and fill them with confidence amidst the battle.
God is to us like this Abba ship, a place of safety. He is the Source of all that exists and desires for us to trust Him in everything and with everything – our finances, our relationships, our children, our future dreams, our desires. He also wants us to confidently return to Him during challenging times, so He can comfort us and at the same time fill us with whatever “supplies” we may need to go out again and make a difference in this world.
In Psalm 46: 1 we read: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” In Psalm 91: 1-2 it’s written: “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” And then in Psalm 32: 7, we read: “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”
Let us make God our Abba ship – the fortress, source and foundation of everything in our lives. May we give Him that place of honor that He deserves. God bless.
Father God, thank you for being my safe place. Help me to remember that everything I have and am is a gift from You. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
