Jesus changes water into wine
1After 2 days there was a wedding. A man and a woman married in the town of Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there 2and the people also invited Jesus and his disciples to the wedding. 3When there was no more wine, Jesus' mother said to Him: ‘They have no more wine.’ 4Jesus said to her: ‘Dear woman, why do you tell Me this? My time has not come yet.’
5Jesus' mother said to the steward: ‘You must do what Jesus tells you to do.’
6There were 6 stone water barrels. The Jews used the water in these barrels to wash and purify themselves. There were 2 to 3 measures of water in every barrel. 7Jesus told the stewards: ‘Fill the barrels with water.’
They made the barrels full of water to the top. 8Then Jesus told them: ‘Now pour out the water and give it to the chief-steward.’
They gave some of this water to the chief-steward. 9The chief-steward tasted the water, but the water had become wine. He did not know where the wine came from, but the stewards who poured the water knew. The chief-steward called the bridegroom 10and said to him: ‘People always give their guests the best wine first, and when everyone has had a lot of wine, then they give them the wine that is not so good. But you have kept the best wine and now you give it to them.’
11This was Jesus' first miracle. He did it in the town of Cana in Galilee. There Jesus showed the people that He was God and his disciples believed in Him. 12Then Jesus, his mother, his brothers and his disciples went to the town of Capernaum for a few days.
Jesus chases away people from the temple-ground
13It was near the time of the Jewish Passover and Jesus went to Jerusalem. 14At the temple He saw people who were selling cattle, sheep and doves. There were also people who exchanged money. 15Jesus took some rope and He made a whip. Then He chased all of them out of the temple-ground, and also the sheep and cattle. He threw the money of the people who had exchanged it onto the ground and He pushed over their tables. 16He said to the people who sold doves: ‘Take these things out of here. Do not make my Father's house a place for buying and selling.’
17And his disciples remembered that in the Old_Testament it is written:
‘I will die because I love your house.’
18The Jews asked Jesus: ‘Who said You may do this? Show us a miracle to show that You may do these things.’ 19Jesus said to them: ‘You can break down this temple and I will build it again in 3 days.’
20The Jews said: ‘People have worked for 46 years to build this temple. And You say You can build it in 3 days. We don't believe You.’ 21But Jesus was talking about his own body when He talked about the temple. 22Later, after Jesus had died and He lived again, the disciples remembered the words that He had said. Then they believed in the Old_Testament and the words that Jesus had said.
Jesus knows people
23Jesus was in Jerusalem for the Passover. Many people saw the miracles that He did and they started to believe in Him. 24But Jesus knew what they were thinking. He knew that they did not_really believe in Him. 25Jesus did not need anyone to tell Him what a person was like. He already knew what people were thinking.
