How they must divide the land
1The Lord said: ‘Each tribe must get a part of the land.
The Dan tribe must get the land in the north, from the town of Hethlon to Lebo-Hamath, then to Hazar-Enan and the border of Damascus in the north up to Hamath. This will be the northern border of the Dan tribe, from the eastern side to the west border of the land.
2The land of the Asher tribe is south of Dan's border. It will go from the eastern side to the western side.
3The land of the Naphtali tribe is south of Asher's border. It will go from the eastern side to the western side.
4The land of the Manasseh tribe is south of Naphtali's border. It will go from the eastern side to the western side.
5The land of the Ephraim tribe is south of Manasseh's border. It will go from the eastern side to the western side.
6The land of the Reuben tribe is south of Ephraim's border. It will go from the eastern side to the western side.
7The land of the Judah tribe is south of Reuben's border. It will go from the eastern side to the western side.
8Next to the land of the Judah tribe must be the part of the land that you have to give to the Lord, from east to west. It must be 25 000 cubits wide and as long as the lands of the tribes. The temple-ground must be in the middle of this land.
9The land that you must give to the Lord must be 25 000 cubits long and 10 000 cubits wide.
10You must divide the holy land for the Lord like this: The priests must get the land to the north. This land must be 25 000 cubits from east to west and 10 000 cubits from north to south. The temple-ground of the Lord must be on this land. 11You must give this land to the holy priests, to the descendants of Zadok. They did not stop working for Me and they did not do wrong as the other Israelites did. It was the Levites who did wrong.
12The land of the priests is a gift that you must give to the Lord and it is most_holy. It must be next to the Levites' land. 13The Levites must get the land next to the priests' land. It must be 25 000 cubits long and 10 000 cubits wide. 14No one may sell this land or exchange it or give it to other people. This is the best part of the land and it is consecrated to the Lord.
15The land that is left over is 5 000 cubits wide and 25 000 cubits long. This is for the other people of the city. They must live there and their animals must eat in the fields. The city must be in the middle of this land.
16The city must be square. It must be 4 500 cubits long and 4 500 cubits wide. 17There must be an open piece of land around the city. It must be 250 cubits wide. 18To the east and west of the city there will be 2 pieces of land that are left over next to the land that you have to give to the Lord. Each part of this land must be 10 000 cubits long. You must use this land to plant and sow so that the people who work in the city will have food to eat. 19Anyone who works in the city may plant and sow on this land, no_matter from what tribe he comes. 20The whole land that you must give to the Lord is square, 25 000 cubits long, and 25 000 cubits wide. You must give this to the Lord and consecrate it to Him. The land for the city is part of that land.
21The ruler must get 2 parts of land. It is the land that is left over to the east and to the west of the holy land and the land for the city. The ruler's land must be next to the land of the tribes. The holy land is the place where the temple-ground and the temple will be. 22The land of the Levites and the city must be between the 2 parts of land of the ruler, and his land must be between the land of Judah and the land of Benjamin.
23Here are the parts of land that the other tribes must get: The land of the Benjamin tribe is from the eastern side to the big sea on the western side. 24The land of the Simeon tribe is south of Benjamin's land. It will go from the eastern side to the western side.
25The land of the Issachar tribe is south of Simeon's land. It will go from the eastern side to the western side.
26The land of the Zebulun tribe is south of Issachar's land. It will go from the eastern side to the western side.
27The land of the Gad tribe is south of Zebulun's land. It will be from the eastern side to the western side.
28The border to the southern side of the land of the Gad tribe will be south of the town of Tamar, past the water of Meribah-Kadesh and then along the Wadi River to the big sea.
29This is the land that you have to divide and give to the tribes and this is the part that each tribe must get.’ This is what the Lord God said.
The gates of the city
30The Lord said: ‘There must be gates where people can go in and out of the city. The northern side of the city must be 4 500 cubits, 31and there must be 3 gates, the gates of Reuben, Judah and Levi. The gates of the city must have the names of the tribes_of_Israel. 32The eastern side of the city must be 4 500 cubits long and there must be 3 gates. The names of the gates must be Joseph, Benjamin and Dan. 33The southern side of the city must be 4 500 cubits long and there must be 3 gates. The names of the gates must be Simeon, Issachar and Zebulun. 34The western side of the city must be 4 500 cubits long and there must be 3 gates. The names of the gates must be Gad, Asher and Naphtali.’
The name of the city
35The walls around the city must be 18 000 cubits and the name of the city will be: ‘The Lord is there.’
