1 John 5

₁Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God and everyone who loves God the Father also loves God's other children. ₂We know that we love the children of God when we love God and we do what He tells us. ₃Yes, we show that we love God if we do what He tells us. And it is easy to do what God tells us, because ₄every child of God can defeat this world which wants to stop us from doing what God tells us. We win against this world when we believe in Jesus. ₅Yes, if we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, then we defeat this world.

₆We know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and He was baptised and He died to forgive our sins. He was baptised, but He also died for our sins. We know this because the Holy_Spirit told us, and the Spirit always speaks the truth. ₇There are 3 things which say it is the truth: ₈They are the Holy_Spirit, the baptism of Jesus and his blood and death. All 3 say the same about Jesus.

₉We believe the things that people tell us. But when God tells us something, we can trust in Him much more. He is very important and He told us about his Son. ₁₀All who believe in the Son of God believe what God has told them about Jesus. But all who do not believe what God told them say that God is lying, because they do not believe what He said about his Son. ₁₁God told us that He has given us eternal_life. Yes, his Son gives us the true_life. ₁₂Everyone who believes in the Son has eternal_life, but everyone who does not believe in the Son does not have eternal_life.

₁₃I write these things to you so that you who believe in the Son of God can be sure that you have eternal_life. ₁₄When we come to God and pray, we are not afraid because we know that He listens when we ask Him for things that He wants us to ask. ₁₅He listens when we ask Him. We know that when we ask God for something that He wants us to ask, He has already given it to us.

₁₆When you see other believers who sin and it is a sin that God will forgive, then you must pray for those believers. You must pray for the believers who commit a sin that God will forgive. If you pray for them, God will give them eternal_life. But there are sins that God will not forgive. I am not saying that you must pray about those. ₁₇Everything that is wrong is sin, but there are sins that God will forgive.

₁₈We know that children of God do not keep on sinning, because the Son of God protects them. That is why the devil can do nothing to them. ₁₉We know that we are children of God and that the devil rules over all other people. ₂₀We know that the Son of God has come and He has helped us to know the true God. Now we live with the real God and with his Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is truly God. He gives us eternal_life. ₂₁Friends, you must beware of the idols, and stay away from them.
