Titus 2
How people must serve the Lord
1Titus, you must teach the people the right things and the true message of God. 2You must tell the older men to think before they do something. They must be wise and live in the right way. Their faith in Christ must be strong, they must love other people every day, and they must never stop following Christ.
3You must also tell the older women that they must live like people who belong to the Lord. They must not say bad things about other people and they must not drink too much wine. They must teach good things to other people. 4Then they can tell the younger women how to love their husbands and their children. 5The younger women must know how to be wise, they must be pure, they must look after their families, they must know how to live in the right way and they must listen to their husbands. Then other people will not have anything bad to say about the message of God.
6You must tell the young men that they must be wise in all things. 7And Titus, you must also do good things and be an example for them. You must be honest when you teach people so that they can respect you. 8You must teach the people the true message of God so that no one will say that you are wrong. Then our enemies will be ashamed and there will be nothing bad that they can say about us.
9You must tell the slaves that they must do everything that their owners want them to do. They must work hard so that their owners will say they have done good work. The slaves must not argue with their owners. 10The slaves must not steal from their owners but they must show their owners that they are honest. They must be good slaves. They must be so good that people will talk about them and say good things about the message that we teach about God who has saved us.
God is very good to us
11This is how we must live because God has shown us that He loves us and that He gave us his grace to save everyone. 12He teaches us not to do things that are wrong and the things of this world that we sometimes want to do. He teaches us to be wise and righteous. Yes, then we will live as God wants us to live in this world. 13We do this while we wait for Jesus Christ our King to come back again. We are happy because we know that our great God and Saviour will come. 14Jesus died so that we don't have to die, and He has set us free from all bad and impure things. He died to make us pure so that we can be his own people, a nation who love to do good things. 15You must tell these things to the people. Tell them what they must do and tell them to stop doing things that are wrong. You must make sure that everyone respects you.
