People who are consecrated to the Lord
1The Lord said to Moses: 2‘You must tell the Israelites that if anyone makes a promise to God and he consecrates a person to the Lord, then you must say how much he must pay to buy that person back again. 3This is how much he must pay:
If the man is older than 20 years but younger than 60 years, he must pay 50 pieces_of_silver as the priests weigh money. 4If it is a woman, he must pay 30 shekels, 5if it is a boy older than 5 but younger than 20 years, he must pay 20 shekels and if it is a girl, he must pay 10 shekels. 6For a boy older than one month but younger than 5 years, he must pay 5 shekels and for a girl he must pay 3 shekels. 7If it is a man older than 60 years, he must pay 15 shekels and for a woman he must pay 10 shekels.
8If the person who made the promise is too poor to pay this money, then he must take the person whom he consecrated to the priest and the priest must decide how much the poor man must pay.’
Gifts to the Lord
9‘If someone has promised to sacrifice an animal to the Lord and it is an animal that he may sacrifice, then the animal is consecrated to the Lord. 10He may not change that animal and give another animal in its place. If he does that, then both the animals are consecrated to the Lord. 11If it is an impure animal that he may not sacrifice to the Lord, then he must bring the animal to the priest. 12The priest will say how much he must pay for that animal. It does not_matter if it is a good animal or a bad animal. The priest will say how much the person must pay and then he must pay it. 13But if the person wants to buy back the animal, then he must pay one 5th more.
14If a person consecrates his home to the Lord, then the priest will say how much the person must pay. Maybe it is a good home, or maybe it is a bad home, but it does not_matter. The priest will say how much the person must pay and then he must pay it. 15But if the person who has consecrated the home wants to buy it back, then he must pay one 5th more and it will be his home again.’
How much people must pay for land
16‘If someone has consecrated a field or land to the Lord, then you must look to see how much seed he can sow on that land. He must pay 50 shekels of silver for every homer of barley that he can sow on that land. 17If the person consecrates the land just after the year_of_freedom_and_celebration, then he must pay all the money that the priest says. 18If he has consecrated the land a long time after the year_of_freedom_and_celebration, then the priest must tell him not to pay all the money. He must pay less, and the priest must count the years to the next year_of_freedom_and_celebration and say how much he must pay. 19If the person who has consecrated the land wants to buy it back himself, he must pay one 5th more than the money that he gave to the priest, and then he may keep the land. 20If he does not buy back the land and he sells it to someone else, then he may not buy it back later. 21When the first owner gets back his land in the next year_of_freedom_and_celebration, it will be like land that is consecrated to the Lord and belongs to Him, so the priest must get that land.
22If a person buys land that did not belong to him and he consecrates the land to the Lord, 23then the priest must count how many years it is before the next year_of_freedom_and_celebration and he must say how much the person must pay. The person must pay the money on the same day that it is consecrated to the Lord. 24The person who sold the land must get it back in the year_of_freedom_and_celebration. The land belongs to him. 25When people have to pay something to buy back something that has been consecrated, they must pay one shekel. It must be a temple-shekel or 20 gerahs.’
Other offerings
26‘The first calves and lambs belong to the Lord. No one can consecrate them, because they already belong to the Lord. 27A person can buy back the first baby of an impure animal. The priest will say how much the person must pay and the person who wants to buy it back must pay one 5th more. If the person does not want to buy it back, then the priest will say how much someone else must pay to buy it.
28If someone gives something to the Lord to belong to Him only, then no one can buy it back. This may be a person, an animal or land. If it belongs to the Lord only, then it is most_holy. 29If someone gives another person to the Lord to belong to Him only, then no one can buy him back. You have to kill him.
30All the 10ths of wheat, barley and fruit belong to the Lord, and are consecrated to Him. 31If someone wants to buy back some of the 10ths, he must pay one 5th more.
32All the 10ths of cattle, sheep and goats are consecrated to the Lord. You must catch every 10th animal. It belongs to the Lord. 33You may not choose the good animals and give the bad animals to the Lord and you may not take a good animal and give a bad one in its place. If someone does that, then both animals are consecrated to the Lord, and no one may buy them back.’
34These are the commandments that the Lord gave Moses on Mount Sinai to give to the Israelites.
