Esau's descendants
(See also 1 Chronicles 1:35-42)
1Here is a list of the descendants of Esau. Esau's other name was Edom. 2Esau married 2 women from Canaan. They were Adah, the daughter of the Hittite Elon, and Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite. 3His other wife was Basemath. She was the daughter of Ishmael and the sister of Nebaioth.
4Ada had a son for Esau. His name was Eliphaz. Basemath also had a son. His name was Reuel. 5Oholibamah's sons were Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau who were born in Canaan.
6Esau took everything he had, his wives, his sons and daughters, all the people in his house, all his cattle and everything that he got in Canaan. He went to another land, away from his brother Jacob. 7Esau went because they had too many animals, so they could not stay together. There were not enough fields for all their animals in the land where they were strangers. 8So Esau and his family went to live in the land of Seir.
9Here are the names of Esau's descendants in the Seir Mountains:
10The names of Esau's sons were Eliphaz, Ada's son, and Reuel, Basemath's son. 11The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz.
12Timna was Eliphaz's concubine, and she had a son for Eliphaz. His name was Amalek. These were the descendants of Esau's wife Adah.
13Reuel's sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. They were the descendants of Esau's wife Basemath.
14Esau's other wife was Oholibamah. She was the daughter of Anah and the granddaughter of Zibeon. She also had sons for Esau. Their names were Jeush, Jalam and Korah.
The leaders in Edom
15Here are the names of the leaders of Esau's descendants.
Eliphaz was the oldest son of Esau. The leaders of his descendants were Teman, Omar, Zepho Kenaz, 16Korah, Gatam and Amalek. They were leaders in Edom and they were the descendants of Eliphaz and Adah.
17The leaders of the sons of Reuel, Esau's other son, were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. They were also leaders of their families in Edom. They were the descendants of Esau and his wife Basemath.
18The leaders of the descendants of Esau's wife Oholibamah were Jeush, Jalam and Korah. They were also leaders of their families and they were the descendants of Esau and his wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah.
19These were the names of the descendants of Esau and the leaders of the families of Edom.
The descendants of Seir
20Here are the names of the descendants of Seir, the Horite, who lived in Edom.
They were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 21Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. They were the leaders of the Horite families and the descendants of Seir in Edom.
22Lotan's sons were Hori and Homam, and Lotan's sister was Timna.
23Shobal's sons were Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam.
24Zibeon's sons were Aiah and Anah. Anah was looking for his father Zibeon's donkeys in the desert when he found fountains with hot water in the desert.
25Anah's son was Dishon, and Oholibamah was her daughter. 26Dishon's sons were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran.
27The sons of Ezer were Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan. 28Dishan's sons were Uz and Aran. 29The leaders of the Horite families were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, 30Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. They were all leaders of the Horites in Seir.
The kings of Edom
(Also in 1 Chronicles 1:43-50)
31There were kings in the land of Edom before there was a king of the Israelites. Here are the names of the kings of Edom.
32The first one was Bela, the son of Beor. The name of his town was Dinhabah. 33When Bela died, Jobab became king. Jobab was the son of Zerah from the town of Bozrah.
34When Jobab died, Husham, from the land of the Temanites, became king. 35When Husham died, Hadad, the son of Bedad, became king. Hadad defeated the people of Midian in the land of Moab. The name of his town was Avith.
36When Hadad died, Samlah, from the town of Masrekah, became king. 37When Samlah died, Shaul, from the town of Rehoboth, became king. Rehoboth was next to the river.
38When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan, son of Akbor, became king.
39When Baal-Hanan, son of Akbor, died, Hadad became king. The name of his town was Pau. The name of Hadad's wife was Mehetabel. She was the daughter of Matred and the granddaughter of Me-Zahab.
The leaders in Edom

40Here are the names of the leaders of the descendants of Esau.
They were Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 41Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 42Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 43Magdiel and Iram. They were all leaders of Edom. Their towns had the same names as the leaders. Esau was the forefather of the Edomites.
