Deuteronomy 34
Moses dies
1Moses went from the Jordan Valley into the land of Moab up to Mount Nebo, to the top of Mount Pisgah, opposite the city of Jericho. The Lord showed Moses the land as far as the land of Gilead to the town of Dan. 2He also showed Moses the land of Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah to the big sea, 3the Negev and the valley near Jericho. The other name of Jericho is ‘The City of Palm Trees’. The Lord showed Moses the whole land up to the town of Zoar. 4The Lord said to Moses: ‘This is the land that I promised when I told Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give it to their descendants. Now I have also shown the land to you, but you will not go into that land.’
5Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in the land of Moab, as the Lord had said. 6The Lord buried Moses in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-Peor and to this day, no one knows where his grave is. 7Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eyes were good and he was still strong. 8The Israelites mourned Moses every day for 30 days in the Jordan Valley in the land of Moab.
Joshua becomes the leader of Israel
9Joshua, son of Nun, was very wise and had a lot of wisdom because before Moses died, he had put his hands on Joshua and had made him the new leader of the Israelites. The Israelites listened to Joshua and they did everything the Lord had told Moses.
10There has never been a prophet as good as Moses in the nation of Israel. The Lord was with Moses and He talked to him a lot. 11No one else could do all the signs and miracles that Moses did. Pharaoh, his officials and all the people in his land saw that when the Lord sent Moses to the land of Egypt. 12God gave him great power, he did wonderful things and all the Israelites saw him doing them.
