1 Timothy 2
How the people in the church must pray
1First of all I ask you to pray for everyone. Tell God what they need and ask Him to help them, and thank God for the things that He has done for them. 2You must pray for kings and for all the people who rule over you. Pray for them so that we can live without trouble or danger and that we can serve God and live as He wants us to live. 3When you pray like this, it is right. It is what God, our Saviour, wants. 4God wants to save everyone and He wants them to know the truth. 5The truth is:
There is only one God and there is only one Person who can bring people to God. That Person is Christ Jesus. 6He gave his life and He died to save everyone and to free them. God did this at the right time.
7That is why Christ Jesus chose me and sent me to tell this Good_News to the people. He made me an apostle to go to people who are not Jews. I do not lie when I say this. I speak the truth. I must also teach the Gentiles the truth and show them what it means to believe in Christ.
8I want men who serve the Lord to pray to God in every place where they come together. They must pray and lift up their hands to heaven, hands that are pure and don't do anything wrong. They must not become angry or argue with each other.
How women in the church must serve the Lord
9I want the women to wear the right clothes, that show that they are not bad women. They must know how to live as good women and what the right things are to do. That is how they must show how beautiful they are. Their hair must not be so beautiful that everyone just wants to look at their hair or at their golden jewellery, their pearls or expensive clothes. 10Women who say they serve God must do good things to other people and that is why people must say how beautiful they are. 11When the congregation comes together, the women must be quiet and they must always listen to what the leaders in the congregation say. 12I do not want a woman to teach other people or to teach men in the congregation. No, she must listen, and she must not talk too much. 13I say this because God made Adam first and then He made Eve. 14It was Eve who believed the lies of the devil, not Adam. She believed the false things that the devil said and so she did what was wrong. 15There are women who believe in God, who love other people, who give themselves to God and are humble. These women will make God happy and honour Him when they have children.
