Good News Translation

The Good News Bible (GNB) is an easy-to-read translation of the Bible which aims to give today's readers maximum understanding of the content of the original texts. It does not follow the traditional vocabulary and style found in the historic English Bible versions. Instead it attempts to present the biblical content and message in standard, everyday, natural English.

In September 1966 the American Bible Society (ABS) published The New Testament in Today's English Version, a translation intended for people everywhere for whom English is either their mother tongue, or another language they learn. Shortly afterwards the United Bible Societies (UBS) requested the American Bible Society to undertake on its behalf a translation of the Old Testament following the same principles. The translation of the Old Testament, which was completed in 1976, was joined to the fourth edition New Testament. This was then known as the Good News Bible, and was issued in American and British editions. The Good News Bible (Anglicised) or British edition (GNTUK) changed the measurements to use the metric system. The text has been updated many times since was updated in 1994, 2004 and 2017.
